This piece is made by artisans in Portugal using a fused glass technique popular in the mid twentieth century. The decorative design is made of hand applied color ground glass that is baked and fused to a clear glass base. This unique and rare technique provides decoration that is permanent and resilient, so they are washable and suitable for everyday use. The pattern on this beautiful charger is representative of overlapping petals or of diamonds, hence "Solitaire".
